The Full Story

About

Through this body of work, I am interested in designing solutions based on the scarcity of materials in space and therefore by designing one garment that can satisfy the need of buying new clothes for special occasions everytime, I feel we could take a step towards a sustainable future. These multi- purpose garments that can transform their shape could help in reducing some waste in the fashion industry.  Moving forward, I plan to continue to promote Indian arts and craft through my work and challenge the ongoing fast fashion practices.

Vision

The idea of being alone in space made me think of creating a device that would sense my pulse and text me happy messages after calculating the data. ‘Happiness buddy’ acts as a backbone of this outfit and controls its movement.

Happiness buddy

‘Happiness Buddy’ acts as a backbone of my final piece of work. This device senses my pulse, sends me happy messages, plays my favourite music, turns on the lights as well as changes the shape of my dress.

Vision

‘Astro Anurita’s’ Diwali outfit changes shape with a change in the pulse rate so that the same outfit can be worn for different occasions by changing its shape. This outfit crosses boundaries between contemporary fashion, costume furniture, robotics and automotives. This outfit can play music, turn on the lights to remind her of her life back on earth. This collection for space is made using mnemonic objects such as blankets, sarees and natural dyeing processes along with arduino coding and a pulley and motor system.
